There's no denying it -- email is clearly the winner when it comes to internal communications tools, but it seems that every year, email becomes more and more archaic. Ask any Gen Z'er if they use email as their main form of communication and they practically vibrate with fear at the thought!
Inboxes are overflowing with external emails, internal emails, and spam. It is almost impossible to stay on top of it and often times the important internal emails get overlooked or indadvertently buried. Noone has time to read every email, especially those that are addressed to 'all employees' (in reality, those emails often take a one-way trip to the trash can!)
So, what do you do? How do you engage with your employees that is meaningful, helpful and doesn't interrupt workflow?
First of all, let's acknowledge what employees need:
1) They need to communicate and engage quickly and efficiently without interrupting their workflow
2) They need to share knowledge and information in a way that invites collaboration, engagement and teamwork
3) They need to access a centralized pool of information, as a resource, quickly and efficiently when a question or something comes up in their day-to-day job; and,
4) They need to take the conversation offline and connect in the real world too!
So, when you think about the above four points, maybe, just maybe, an internal blog could address all of these needs. What do you think?
Until next time...
